According to India’s Central Bureau of Investigation, there are an estimated 1.2 million young girls living in India's brothels. Sanlaap North America (SNA), founded Sindhura Sarikonda, is a non-profit that works to rescue, shelter and empower women and girls who have been kidnapped or sold by their families into the red light districts of urban India.

We partnered with Sindhura to produce a series of videos to increase awareness of the tragic problem of sex-trafficking, in order to raise funds to support the recovery programs.

ABOUT THE FILMS

Sagorika is a brave survivor living at a Sanlaap shelter in Kolkata. She tells her story of being trafficked and shares her dreams and aspirations with us. This is a story of the atrocities of human trafficking, but more importantly, it’s a story about strength, resilience and new beginnings.

Zesa Academy is a program of Sanlaap North America, which provides vocational education in jewelry and fabric design, along with a life skills training which includes personal finance, personal healthcare, safety & self-defense and basic English. 100% of the profits of Zesa go back to support training and organization growth for the program’s young women.

IMPACT

After the release of the two films, Sindhura was nominated for the Forbes' 30 Social Entrepreneurs Under 30 list, as well as a Classy Award for Child's Rights. The films are showcased on the organization's website and are being used to raise funds and awareness for SNA’s continued work to end human trafficking.
